The "Big Easy"
Mardi Gras in New Orleans is best described as what happens when the ‘Celebration of the Ages’ descends upon the Big Easy to throw the next incarnation of the worlds greatest party. Every year on the Twelfth Night (January 6th), the Phunny Phorty Phellows (a group of about 50 costumed men and women) proclaim the Carnival Season to be open as they ride a decorated streetcar along the St. Charles Avenue line.

Between the Twelfth Night and Mardi Gras, millions of visitors from around the world come to New Orleans during the Carnival Season to watch and take part in the area’s more than 70 parades, formal balls and all forms of festivities throughout the area. Rather they are a walking Krewe, floating on the water in a boat, or riding on a fabulously decorated “Super Float”, New Orleans more than 180 Krewe organizations throw a parade for every taste.
