Krewe of Charleston

"The Krewe of Charleston was founded in 2009 by Donnie Bulliard, a Louisiana transplant who envisioned a New Orleans style Mardi Gras parade through the streets of the Holy City, Charleston (SC).  The Krewe hosted its first Grande Bal Masque on January 30, 2010 to the delight of 500 spectators.

The KOC is gearing up for the 2011 Bal Masque.  Reigning in as Queen is former First Lady of SC, Jenny Sanford.  We are also hosting a yacht parade and planning the first ever Mardi Gras parade down the historic streets of Charleston.

The Krewe of Charleston is the only Mardi Gras Krewe on the Atlantic Coast.

Krewe Motto - Get On the Good Foot

Formed - 2004

Tampa area, FL

Krewe consists of 50 Men and Women

Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate (“Krewe”) works to enhance the lives of amputees and their families and to support organizations that work with amputees.  We have helped amputees here in our local community, around Florida, throughout the U.S. and in several Caribbean countries.

We provide: rehabbed prosthetic equipment for those who have no insurance; scholarship funds for amputees to attend college, university, technical or training school; home remodeling for those that need a little more safety in their bathroom or something as simple as a ramp so they can get into their home while using a wheelchair; custom handcycles and tricycles for children that have lost limbs because “every child deserves to be able to ride a bike”; and other means of assistance to help with a mortgage, a down payment on a car, automobile hand controls, and sponsorships for children to attend amputee summer camp.

The Krewe has one major fundraiser the last Saturday in February.  It is a Sporting Clays Benefit Shoot  held in Land ‘O Lakes, FL.  We are always looking for sponsors and, of course, shooters for that day.  Through the support of loyal sponsors and shooters we are able to raise the money needed for the year to help those amputees requesting our assistance.  However, with greater funding we could always help more.  Being Pirates the more booty the better.
Any amputee that needs some assistance should contact the Krewe directly.

Donations can be sent to Peg Leg Pirate Krewe, PO Box 1854, Ruskin, FL  33575 or call Sharon at 813-892-4913 if you wish to make a donation using your credit card.

Goals: Have Fun

Krewe Motto: NUMQUAM LUDIMUS
"We never have any fun!"

Additional Information: Our founding fathers fashioned our organization after the Krewes of New Orleans. Our officers, midshipmen and seamen wear the uniforms of the British navy of the 1800’s.

Because we are seamen at heart, King Neptune (the Greek Poseidon), the mythical god of the seas, inspired our name, "Ye Mystic Krewe of Neptune."

Neptune's trident, the staff of power, signifies the bond of fellowship that pervades our organization.

Although we are independent from other similar organizations in the Tampa Bay, Florida area, we are affiliated with the Inter Krewe Council whose roster includes many other local “Krewe”.

Charities: While the objective of the Krewe is merely to have fun our members do participate in other civic, charitable and religious organizations apart from the Krewe.
